A growing business usually sees the visible part of a successful brand first. The campaign, the Instagram page, the celebrity ad. What it rarely sees is the thinking that told those activities what to achieve.
The campaign is the execution. The strategy tells the campaign what it needs to do. A social media post is not a strategy. Neither are Google Ads, blogs or influencer collaborations. These are methods, and a digital marketing strategy decides which method serves which goal.
The five brands below made different strategic decisions at different stages of their growth. Each lesson applies to an Ahmedabad business, whatever its category.
Quick Summary
- A campaign is execution. A digital marketing strategy decides what that campaign must achieve.
- Rasna, WOW! Momo, Manyavar, Zudio and Nykaa each made a different strategic decision at a different stage.
- Copying a brand’s campaign rarely works. Extracting the principle behind it does.
- Strategy comes first. Channels, content and ads follow.

Rasna
Understand the customer before you decide the proposition
Rasna’s story begins in Ahmedabad, but the interesting part for a marketer is not simply where the brand started. It is how closely its early proposition matched what its customers could afford.
The brand’s consumer drink was sold in a ₹5 pack that could make 32 glasses. It later introduced smaller ₹2 sachets that made six glasses and helped take the product into rural markets.
Then came the memorable “I Love You Rasna” campaign.
The campaign did not make the product feel complicated. Instead, it turned Rasna into something emotional and familiar. The simple, repeatable line gave a mass-market drink a personality that families could remember.
The strategy and communication therefore worked together. The product addressed affordability and accessibility. The campaign built familiarity and emotional recall around it.
Learnings from I Love You Rasna Campaign:
Before deciding what content to create or which platform to advertise on, understand what makes the first purchase easy for your customer. Your marketing becomes stronger when the proposition already makes sense to the person you are trying to reach.
WOW! Momo
Turn a Cultural Moment Into a Product Opportunity
WOW! Momo did not build its Indian Momo League campaign around simply being visible during cricket season. It connected the product with an occasion where people were already spending time, watching matches and looking for something to eat.
The Indian Momo League (IML) introduced city-inspired momo variants based on six major Indian cities, along with IML combos featuring momos, fries and beverages. The campaign also used social media and influencer activity to build engagement around the cricket season.

The strategy was simple: instead of asking customers to make room for another food brand during match time, WOW! Momo made its product part of the match-time experience.
Learnings from IML Campaign:
Your marketing strategy does not always need to create a new customer habit. It can also identify an existing behaviour and find a relevant way for your brand to become part of it.
For a local Ahmedabad business, this could mean identifying the occasions, conversations or cultural moments that already matter to its audience, then building the product, offer or campaign around that behaviour.
Don’t start by asking which platform you should advertise on. Start by asking, “What moment already matters to my customer, and how can my brand become part of it?”
Manyavar
Expand what your brand owns in the customer’s mind
Manyavar began with a strong association with wedding wear. Its marketing gradually expanded that association toward the broader idea of celebration wear.
That shift is visible in campaigns such as #TaiyaarHokarAaiye.
The campaign was not simply about showing men wearing Manyavar. It was designed around a behavioural idea: men should dress up for weddings and celebrations even when they are not the groom.
That distinction mattered.
The brand was trying to expand the number of occasions and people for whom Manyavar was relevant. According to Vedant Fashions’ management commentary, the campaign was associated with an increase in non-grooms entering stores, while the company viewed the behavioural shift as a longer-term play.
The campaign therefore supported a much bigger business objective: increase the occasions in which the brand gets considered.
Learnings from Manyavar’s Digital Marketing Strategy:
Look beyond what your customer currently buys from you. A jewellery brand may not only sell jewellery. A real estate brand may not only sell property. A restaurant may not only sell food. Find the larger occasion, problem or aspiration your product can own.
Zudio
Positioning works when the whole experience backs it
Zudio’s success is often reduced to low pricing. That misses the more useful marketing lesson.
Its value proposition is repeated across the experience: affordable fashion, frequent newness, accessible locations and a retail environment built around discovery.
Its digital presence reinforces that connection with younger consumers. Tata says Instagram has become an important discovery and engagement channel for Zudio, while its creator collaborations and constant product newness help maintain interest.
The important point is that Zudio does not depend on one advertisement to communicate value.
The product, price, store experience, location and communication all tell a similar story.
That is positioning in practice.
Learnings from Zudio’s Digital Marketing Strategy:
If your brand says one thing in an advertisement and something completely different on your website, social media or at the point of purchase, your customer notices. A strong digital marketing strategy cannot compensate for a positioning gap that exists across the wider customer experience.
Nykaa
Connect digital execution to a business outcome
Nykaa provides a different kind of lesson.
Its digital strategy was not simply about reaching more beauty shoppers. The brand wanted to acquire customers in a way that remained commercially sustainable.
When it experimented with Google’s Performance Max, it used value-based bidding, segmented campaigns by category and set clear measurement goals. It also adopted an experiment-first approach rather than treating the first campaign setup as final.
The result was measurable. Google’s case study reports 50% more acquisitions at Nykaa’s defined CPA targets and a 15% improvement in ROAS.
The important lesson is not “use Performance Max”.
It is the thinking behind it:
Define what a customer is worth. Set a measurable target. Test the approach. Learn from the result. Improve the next iteration.
Learnings from Nykaa’s DM Strategy:
Do not judge digital marketing only by impressions, clicks or followers. Decide what business outcome the activity is supposed to influence and build your measurement around that outcome.
Why You Need to Invest Time in Building a Digital Marketing Strategy
Copying a campaign rarely works. Rasna studied what customers could afford. Manyavar studied what an occasion meant. Nykaa studied what a customer was worth. Each brand started with a problem and chose its marketing activity afterwards.
A digital marketing strategy is where your business does that thinking. It lets you:
- Identify the actual marketing challenge.
- Understand your audience and analyse competitors.
- Find gaps and opportunities in your market.
- Define the position you want to own.
- Map the customer journey and funnel.
- Choose channels and decide what each one does.
- Set measurable objectives tied to one business goal.
A strategy states the problem you are solving, the person you are solving it for and the position the brand should own. It also shows where the customer journey breaks, which channels fix it and which outcome you will measure.
Good digital marketing strategies for business give every channel a job. SEO captures people who already search for what you sell. Social media marketing builds demand and recall. Paid advertising speeds up whatever already works.
Without that structure, patterns appear. Businesses post because competitors post. They run ads before they know where the conversion breaks. They publish blogs without checking search intent. They spread budget across channels with no defined role for each, change campaigns before the strategy has had time to work and report clicks that never connect to revenue. None of this comes from poor effort. It comes from starting with activity before direction.
The goal is not to do more digital marketing activities. The goal is to make every digital marketing effort work in the same direction.
How Flora Fountain Approaches Digital Marketing Strategy
At Flora Fountain, we have helped define and solve marketing challenges for 150+ brands since 2016. Our approach starts with research, because the problem a business names is not always the problem its marketing needs to solve. We study your business, audience, market, competitors, current performance and existing challenges. Then we look for gaps and room to stand apart, redefine the challenge where needed and build a more focused strategy around it.
That is why the first job at our digital marketing agency in Ahmedabad is understanding what needs solving, not choosing which service to sell. Our teams cover SEO, social media, content, performance marketing and design, so the strategy can use whichever channel earns its place.
If you are spending on digital marketing and the bigger picture still feels unclear, start with the problem rather than the channel. Talk to team Flora Fountain about what you are trying to solve and we will help you find where your marketing needs to work harder.
